Power in the Name – To Save Souls

Power in the Name – To Save Souls.

“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”  (Matthew 1:21).

“Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.” (John 20:31).

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (John 4:12).

“All the prophets testify about Him that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name.” (Acts 10:43).

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  (Romans 10:13, quoting Joel 2:32).

“You were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.’ (1 Corinthians 6:11).

“For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thess. 5:9).

“Although you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, for you are receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” (1 Peter 1:8-9).

Unpacking salvation: It was helpful to me to use the idea of being saved in all three tenses. We have been saved from the penalty of sin (justified). We are being saved from the power of sin (sanctified). And we will be saved from the presence of sin (resurrected). In the name of Jesus of Nazareth, salvation is ours.
