Gospel Fishing – I Feel Like A Fish
Gospel Fishing – I Feel like A Fish.
I feel like a fish in
the seaweed of my parents’ gospel
which sheltered me from that
shark-cruising ocean
but which also kept me from seeing
the bright strands of the fisherman’s net
cleaving me from my ocean
into that great draught
pulled from the other side of the boat
flopping with my equally startled brethren
into the kingdom of the
Fisher of men.
* A poem by David Bellinger, a fellow classmate of Steve and Sheri in the class of 1971 at Wheaton College. He wrote this poem while still a student with us at Wheaton. His father was a political science professor at Wheaton as well.
