Exhort One Another.
“If your gift is to come alongside others to exhort them, then give yourself to exhortation.” (Romans 12:8).
Exhort: to urge to continue in the Faith; to beseech in strong terms; to come alongside to offer encouraging guidance; to inspire courage and hope; to call upon someone to act; to give affirming words that strengthens others.
a. To exhort others is to be a spiritual cheerleader, offering inspiration, guidance and encouragement. There are times when we need to be exhorted in the Faith, to be urged to dive deeper and deeper into Scripture and discipleship. It seems that some are more naturally or spiritually gifted in exhortation than others. Every Body of believers needs someone to wisely affirm and strengthen, to encourage and inspire. Even if it’s not a spiritual gift of ours, we can nonetheless grow in this important ministry and offer encouraging guidance when the Holy Spirit enables us to do so. We are called to exhort one another, even if our exhortation is to one individual person and not the extended community. Exhortation, whether one-on-one or larger group, calls for wisdom, discernment, and God-given inspiration.
b. “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke,, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.” (2 Timothy 4:2, KJV).
“Beware, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called ‘Today,’ lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” (Hebrews 3:13, KJV).
“Let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:24-25, KJV).
“At each place they went, they strengthened the lives of the believers and encouraged them to go deeper in their faith.” (Acts 14:22, TPT).
“Then Judas and Silas, both being prophets, spoke at length to the believers, encouraging and strengthening their faith.” (Acts 15:32, NLT).
(A Christian leader must)… ” be hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled, holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.” (Titus 1:8-9, KJV).
“Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.” (1 Thessalonians 5:14, KJV).
